The Romans didn't only play sports they also played ball games, board games and liked to gamble. However woman were not allowed to take part in any of these activities.
Gladiators
A popular way to entertain people in Rome was by a gladiator fight where to males would fight to the death using different weapons. It wasn't always two males fighting each other sometimes gladiators would fight wild animals.
Boxing
Boxing the most popular sport in Rome, the boxing gloves were made of ox-hides which covered the palm and exposed the fingers. The right arm was used for attacking and the left arm was used to defend. Boxers were not allowed to grab one another or use their feet to make the opponent fall over. Because there was no set time limit the boxers could have a time out whenever the want to recover. If a match lasted too long then the referees would stop the match and the boxers would stand still taking punches from the opponent without any defence and the winner would be the last one standing. It was also considered a honour to defeat the opponent without receiving any punches or suffering any wounds.
Chariot Racing
Chariot racing is held at Circus Maximus. Circus Maximum is a giant oval stadium that seats over 200,000 people. The chariot drivers were normally slaves but there were some professionals, sometimes the slaves could buy themselves out of slavery, these slaves would normally live in the stables along with the horses. The match will have 12 chariots and each chariot will have to do seven laps around the oval before finishing.
There were three types of chariots the biga which contains two horses, the triga which has three horses and the quadra which has four horses.

Roman thEatRes
Every Roman city had a theatre and just like a Greek theatre there are three main parts to it. The stage where actors perform, the auditorium where audience sit and the orchestras where all the instruments are set up. Women where not allowed to become actors so the men took all roles, they wore easy changeable clothing to help distinguish characters, young men wore bright coloured cloths and old men wore only white. Depending on who they were they had different wigs, grey wigs were for old men, black wigs were for young men and red wigs were used to see who was a slave.
